the final magazine

The final magazine came out OK, although i am not pleased with the image as it is not as big as i wanted it too be, it would have been better if it filled more of the front Page. The background colour could also have been a better colour to catch the viewers eye. i like the font on the front cover SDC as this is easy to remember and it will get people to look at it. it is written in bold and large font this makes it more noticeable, it has a different colour background so that it breaks the magazine up and the viewers attention is drawn to it. it could have been bigger to attract the attention of viewers more but then it may have been too big. the different colours of each main sell means thata they viewers eye is taken from each to the next

The contents page is a little too plain although i like the blue band along the bottom of the page. there isn't much information about whats in the magazine on the contents page and the lack of colour spoils the effect of the page. The page number at the bottom of the page is large and bold, this will continue through out the magazine.

Both the pages are a little too basic and they could do with some more colourful images on them, as i tried to stick to a simple colour scheme of only a few colours but i think it would have been better if it either had more colours or at least a brighter colour scheme. the overall magazine is presented well but the colours and if it wasn't so plain then it would be better, i think the layout is fine and easy to see what is where on the page.

the front page has the date and issue on it and the 3 main sells to attract the readers to buy the magazines.

photographs

The 1st image (directly above) is further away than the 2nd image and the person is not smiling in the image, the photograph was taken with a grey/white background so that the image could be put on the magazine, with a background that is grey of white and it would blend with teh background of the magazine. The 2nd image the person is smiling slightly so that the image is given a human touch, i chose the 2nd image as this was the image that looked the best and i thought that out of the two it would create the best image to catch the readers eye. both the images are medium close ups and are taken straight on so the the reader is not left feeling intimidated of looked down upon by the model but as though they are equal to the reader, in both the photographs the person has eye contact with he camera so that they have eye contact with the viewer. the 2nd image is a better image and that's why i chose it.

Flat plans

The front cover of the magazine has a large masthead, that has three letters of the beginning of Sussex Downs College bigger nad in capitals with the rest of the words following in smaller text so that the main bits stand out.

the main sell of the magazine Freshers Party, i chose this as the main sell as it is something that is a event that recently happened and something that the students would want to find out about what really happened there. the other main sells that i chose were top tips to survive college, i chose this beause the numbers will stand out to the viewer and the last main sell that i have chosen is the new starters to the college.

The image is large in the middle of the page so that the it catches the viewer eye. I decided on the main image of the boy in the middle of the page.

The contents page has the information about what is in the magazine, the image that is on the front of the magazine and some information about the article. the contents page is quite simple and plain. I chose the font style because its simple and clear so that the reader can understand it. there is a bar along the bottom that says "Sussex downs college" this is so that the reader is reminded of the magazine that they are reading. the contents Page is quite simple, it could do with some more things happening on the page to make it more interesting.

In the prelininary task we have been asked to redesign the front page and the contents page of the SDC magazine. Including taking picures, thinking about the layout and the styles we use so that it suits the target audience. we also have to create the flat plans for the magazine. then we have to evalute what we have done.
